    Seventh EDCTP Forum: Registration and call for abstracts now open

    Today the European & Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership opened the registration and call for abstracts for its Seventh EDCTP Forum. The Forum will be held in Dakar, Senegal on 20-23 October 2013. Its theme is The Partnership journey: New horizon for better health. EDCTP invites EDCTP grantees, public and private product research and development partners, and researchers involved in HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria to register online and submit their abstracts

    TEG Postgraduate Training Fellowship in Medical Statistics for African Scientists

    This fellowship, which is funded by the UK Medical Research Council (MRC), provides support for two years training in medical statistics. For the first year the successful applicant will study for the MSc degree in Medical Statistics at the London School of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (LSHTM). This will be followed by a one-year professional attachment at one of the African centres associated with the research programme of the Tropical Epidemiology Group (TEG) at LSHTM. During the professional attachment, training Fellows will develop their statistical and research skills by working on studies with guidance from TEG staff.

    Training program for people interested in becoming DSMB members

    Fellows who successfully complete the course will be qualified to serve on a Data and Safety Monitoring Board in 2013 for clinical trials funded by Pharmaceutical, PDP (Product Development Partnership Organizations) or Government sponsors They will also be eligible to be selected for additional DSMBs constituted for trials that involve the fellow’s country of residence. Additionally, the training would provide the opportunity to serve on the fellows’ institutional DSMB post-­‐training and potentially train others in their institution.

    FIRST POST-DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS

    The MCDC1 proposal contained provision for about 10 ‘re-entry’, first post-doctoral, fellowships of a value of up to $150,000 open to successful MCDC PhD students on a competitive basis, along the lines adopted for the GMP programme. The form that these awards might take was considered at a meeting of the MCDC Steering Committee in London in May 2012 and again extensively by both the MCDC Steering and Advisory Committees during the MCDC meeting held in Atlanta in November 2012.

    Call for Applications for PhD Fellowships

    Kilimanjaro Clinical Research Institute (KCRI) at Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre (KCMC) is inviting applications for two PhD fellowships in a reproductive health project. The project is a collaborative effort involving KCMC, the University of Copenhagen (UC), and the University of Southern Denmark (SDU). The project is funded by the Danish Government through the FFU of the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The selected candidates will be enrolled at the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical University College (KCMUCo) of Tumaini University, and part of their training during their PhD course will be conducted in Denmark.
